Internships and field schools

The Department of Anthropology offers internships, digs and practical field experience courses for 6 of their programs:

No fewer than 13 courses (consult the list below) for 1st and 2nd cycles offers internships, digs and practical field experience!

Each summer, the Department organizes at least one field school experience, and international field placement is regularly offered. They focus on archaeology.

Prehistoric Archaeology Field School

The Prehistoric Archaeology field school takes place every summer in the Outaouais region. The internship offers 4 full weeks in the field as part of the ANT3283 course (in French). This 6-credit option will be applied the following fall term, after submitting their field report. This course is intended for students enrolled in the Bachelor’s in Anthropology program.

Main objectives of the School

  • Familiarize students with common materials: stone objects, ceramics, structures, culinary residues, etc.
  • Encourage students to learn how to intervene in the field: surveying, raking, excavating, identification, recording, drawing up plans and profiles., etc.
  • Provide an opportunity to take part in genuine professional research on several different sites.
  • Enable individuals to better assess the demands of the discipline and confirm the direction of their academic and professional investments.
